School workshops

What is engineering?

Our workshops introduce students to the world of engineering. Encouraging them to think like Dyson engineers, while testing their problem-solving knowledge and applying their ideas to a working prototype.

The challenge

Designing the future

Our workshops challenge students to use their engineering, electronic and problem-solving skills to program a robot with the ability to navigate through a room and avoid obstacles along the way. Much like the Dyson's own robot vacuum. Each participant is encouraged to explore solutions to real-world problems to ignite a passion we hope will last a lifetime.

“The James Dyson Foundation workshop provided an ideal opportunity for students to apply their academic understanding in a practical setting. It brought their learning to life and helped develop problem solving and teamwork skills.”

The outcome

A new generation of inventors

Using Lego Mindstorms to program the robot, the aim of the workshop is to help develop their problem-solving, creativity and communication skills. Using new technology and new ways of thinking, they provide insight into a real engineering company, from experts at Dyson who lead the sessions.
