With its engine set traversely and its gearbox nestling down in the sump, the Mini was less than ten feet long – yet could easily carry four people. The Mark 2 featured a redesigned front grill and would be fondly remembered for its show stealing performance in the 1969 film The Italian Job.
The mini was designed by Alex Issigonis to be small and useful yet have room on the inside for four people. The engine is located at the front of the car on top of the gearbox so that the car was not as long. In total 80% of the floor is taken up by passengers and seats.
